LIBOR ŠMOLDAS QUARTET

When assembling the quartet, Libor surrounded himself with three of the outstanding Czech musicians of his generation:
bassist Josefem Fečo,
drummer Tomáš Hobzek
and pianist Petr Beneš.

The band has been together since 2009. Most of the repertoir consists of originals composed by all four members. The Quartet has gained its recognition mostly by performing in jazz clubs in Prague. There has also been lot of big festival and international concerts lately (Bohemia Jazz Fest, Brno Jazz Fest, South Bohemia Jazz Fest).
Most notable among recent international appearances was a three-week American tour. The Quartet was invited to play in New York City, Washington D.C., New Jersey, Richmond (Virginia), and North Carolina among other places. A show at the famed Smalls jazz club in New York and a gig accompanying the great saxophonist and member of the Jazz Messengers, Bobby Watson, at the WCU jazz festival garnered the most recognition for the group.

The Libor Smoldas Quartet has released a live album entitled „Live at Jazz Dock”. Using an innovative method of promotion, this album was also made available as a free download on Libor's website. Over 2000 unique downloads has led to a major following for the band in both the Czech Republic and abroad. The album consists solely of Libor's original compositions and it has also earned favorable reviews by the Czech press.
Second album was released in 2011. Recorded in the USA during a tour, entitled 18 days. 2000 miles.
Latest record will be released in the 2013 and will feature Bobby Watson.

AS A CO-LEADER:

SOULMATES

After NYC Organ Ace Brian Charette jammed with Czech Jazz luminaries, Libor Smoldas and Tomas Hobzek. It was obvious that the three were SoulMates. The music combines all the sophistication and intricacy of Modern Jazz with all the grease of a Harlem Juke Joint . The group has been honing it's sound for the last 2 years and has a new album on the New Port Line Label. Don't miss this red hot trio!
