Libor Šmoldas NYC Trio: DUSK

NEWPORTLINE, 2020

After Dreamtime and On the Move, Šmoldas' stellar New York trio consisting of Adam Nussbaum on drums and Jay Anderson on double bass comes with an atmospheric album entitled Dusk. This time it's a record with a theme - eleven of Libor's compositions will take you through the period of one day from dawn (Crack of Dawn) to midnight (Dead of Night).


Unlike in previous recordings, Šmoldas uses a telecaster-type electric guitar does not play with a pick, using only a finger picking technique. He thus creates a sound full of harmony and color, which Nussbaum and Anderson take to yet another level. Dusk was recorded in the spring of 2019, printed and produced at the end of 2020, delayed due to the pandemic pause.


The album was launched  in Prague in 2021 as part of the Jazz Meets World festival and at the Brno Jazz Fest the same year.  Dusk was published by NEWPORTLINE Lukáš Martínek took care of the sound, photography was by Jan Pohribný and Neil Swanson, design by Yvone Baalbaki.

SILVER, Skici stříbrného plátna

A second solo guitar album of  Libor Šmoldas is entitled Silver, Skici stříbrného plátna, meaning sketches of the silver screen. It is a loose continuation of a previous album Blue. This time, Libor focused on the music from the Czechoslovak Silver Screen films. This unusual solo album features Libor on different guitars using different approaches and techniques. It was recorded and mixed by Lukáš Martínek at studio Svárov. Jan Pohribný, a renowned Czech photographer provided the album with stylish photos. The graphic design was done by Yvone Baalbaki. The Silver album was launched on November 30, 2019 at 7 p.m. at the Jazz Dock club in Prague. The godfather of the album is the Cimrman actor Petr Brukner.

In 2016, 110 years had passed since the birth of the legendary Czech composer Jaroslav Ježek. Libor Šmoldas decided to join the celebrations of his anniversary with his  his seventh, but first solo guitar album. The CD contains original improvised solo guitar arrangements of Jezek's songs.

Libor Šmoldas Quartet feat. Bobby Watson: INTUITION

The leading Czech jazz guitarist and composer Libor Šmoldas releases his fourth album as a leader entitled "Intuition" featuring his quartet and special guest Bobby Watson. This CD is coming out on NEW PORT LINE label. The album is an indirect continuation of the previous record "18 Days. 2000 Miles.", which was released after the qurtet's tour in the United States and that featured a bonus track with saxophonist Booby Watson.

A third album of the leading Czech jazz guitarist and composer Libor Šmoldas with his quartet entitled "18 Days. 2000 Miles." It was recorded in the USA at the end of the Quartet's tour in spring of 2011. In addition to guitarist Libor Šmoldas, the recording features our leading players of the younger jazz generation - specifically, double bassist Josef Fečo, pianist Petr Beneš and drummer Tomáš Hobzek. The album contains mainly Libor's original compositions with two exceptions by the drummer Hobzek and double bassist Fečo, as well as by three cover songs. The album closes as a bonus track with the classic jazz hit "Moanin" by Bobby Timmons, which the band recorded live during their joint performance with legendary saxophonist Bobby Watson, and subsequently foreshadowed their further collaboration

Libor Šmoldas NYC Quartet: IN NEW YORK ON TIME

Animal Music 2010

Libor Smoldas' second album as a leader was recorded in New York and features an all-star line-up of George Mraz on bass, Sam Yahel and Jeff Ballard. It contains arrangements of song from musical My Fair Lady as well as Libor's originals. It was released in 2010 by Animal Music Label in the Czech Republic.
